MATT BROWN

Graduated Spring 2017

6 Semesters with CSBN

Current Job: Long Beach Play By Play Commentator

A Bit About Me

Stepping onto campus at Chapman, I had hopes and dreams of becoming a play-by-play sportscaster. Little did I know that CSBN would help me get there. I'll never forget the very first club meeting for CSBN where I, a sophomore at the time, got introduced to be the color analyst to Trent Rush in the network's opening broadcast. Through my 6 semesters with CSBN, I would eventually get my opportunity to call play-by-play multiple times, but it was actually BEHIND the camera where I had the most fun. I learned the ins and outs of a real sports broadcast, created lifelong bonds with the crew I was working with, and we eventually built something that was bigger than us all. 10 years after that first broadcast, I visited the club and was astounded by the exponential growth it made. I felt a deep sense of pride watching the current members display what they've learned through the opportunities that CSBN has given them. Since graduating in 2017, I've been lucky enough to call a couple of National Championships and help start the ESPN+ era of the Big West Conference as a play-by-play sportscaster for Long Beach State University. A future goal will be to call games on linear TV, but even if that happens, I'll always remember the invaluable experience I had with CSBN.
